Extractive Waste as a Resource: Quartz, Feldspars, and Rare Earth Elements from Gneiss Quarries of the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola Province (Piedmont, Northern Italy)

چکیده
The growing demand for raw materials requires the optimization of extractive processes and innovative approaches, such as recovery quarrying processing waste. Waste from gneiss (ranging blocks up to residual sludge) used dimension stone (Beola Serizzo Piedmont, northern Italy) were characterized chemistry, mineralogy, petrography: quartz feldspars (plagioclase K-feldspar) are most abundant minerals, followed by micas (biotite minor muscovite) traces chlorite epidote (allanite). Quartz could be reused in industrial minerals sector, especially ceramics industry; depending on purity requirements materials, some mica separation treatments may required. critical issues relate small grain size relative abundance commercial varieties. presence allanite opens new possibilities rare earth elements (REE, materials).

Concentration and recycling of rare earth elements (REEs) from iron mine waste using a combination of physical separation methods
This study aims to investigate and optimize the effects of the main parameters including the particle size, gravity and magnetic separation combination, high gradient magnetic separation, magnetic field intensity, shaking table slope, washing water flow, and electrostatic separation upon the rare earth element (REE) recoveries from iron mine waste. The electron microprobe showed that high amoun...
متن کاملCoal fly ash as a resource for rare earth elements
Rare earth elements (REE) have been recognised as critical raw materials, crucial for many clean technologies. As the gap between their global demand and supply increases, the search for their alternative resources becomes more and more important, especially for the countries which depend highly on their import. Coal fly ash (CFA), which when not utilised is considered waste, has been regarded ...
متن کاملAssessing rare earth elements in quartz rich geological samples.
Sodium peroxide (Na2O2) fusion coupled to Inductively Coupled Plasma Tandem Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS/MS) measurements was used to rapidly screen quartz-rich geological samples for rare earth element (REE) content. The method accuracy was checked with a geological reference material and Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA) measurements. The used mass-mode combinations presented accur...
متن کاملEnvironmental Review of Coal Ash as a Resource for Rare Earth and Strategic Elements
Recently, prices of strategic minerals and rare earth elements have been rising dramatically due to global supply shortages and increasing demands. These metals are integral components of advanced technologies, such as, cell-phones, wind turbines, permanent magnets, and semi-conductors. The relative scarcity of these valuable elements has prompted many companies to search for new mineral source...
